    If you want a different experience in your hotel/lodging needs, please try this place out. It's more personal than a hotel, with an atmosphere that reflects the history and culture of the south. Why stay at a cookie cutter place when you can experience part of history? We stayed a week for our honeymoon, and enjoyed our time in the city, and in the Mansion. We chose the Moulin Rouge suite, and it was pretty great. The furniture and decor was unique and elaborate. The bathroom was spacious with a large bubble bath tub, which was cool to have. The bed was comfortable, and the room was very comfortable. The Mansion is very old, and very beautiful. The owners and hosts work hard to keep it that way. Upon arrival, there are house rules and guidelines to follow, to ensure the preservation of the property, and also the comfort and enjoyment of all guests on the property. I didn't find those rules to be difficult to follow, but it's different than staying in your average hotel, so be prepared for that. Our host, Tim, was awesome. He helped us out with tips for enjoying the city, and was very easy to talk to. I felt as if i was a guest in a very good friend's home, and it was an honor to stay there. As far as the breakfast goes, someone mentioned that it isn't great. Well, it's not. But, it's a few snacky food items to get you started out before you adventure into the city, where you can find good food that you probably can't get at home. A bagel in your town is the same as a bagel at the mansion... but can you get beignets or a crawfish omelette from wherever you live?? Also, I recommend breakfast at the Trolley Stop Cafe, a few blocks over from the mansion on St. Charles. Delicious!! Overall, this was a fun place to stay, and it made our visit to NOLA a complete experience. The next time I go, I'd like to try other rooms, but I'll definitely stay there again.

    The location was very nice. The trolley was only a block away to take you uptown or to the French Quarter. The mansion itself was very nice. The themed rooms are a nice touch. My main complaint was the breakfast. The website says continental style breakfast which is fine. However, everything was packaged. Nutra-Grain bars, Quaker granola bars, packaged danish. There was nothing freashly made. I could have a better breakfast at La Quinta or Holiday Inn Express. For the price of the room a fresh breakfast would be nice.

    My cousin got married here and while I didn't stay in the hotel it would be a cool place to have any kind of outdoor party. It looks like an old plantation. It's quite an experience although I enjoyed being on the front porch, or under the tent rather than inside the hotel lobby. It was spooky how much I felt like I was back in the old school south.

    I LOVE B & Bs. I am attracted to their charm, hospitality, and quirkiness. l am sad to report MM failed in all three categories. The mansion has been for sale since 2007 and it looks like it has not received any love or attention since it went to market. The mansion is dark, dreary, and tacky with its plastic covered cushions and car wash door coverings. The amenities including toiletries were terrible and seemed like hand me downs left by guests. In terms of hospitality, it seemed like our arrival was an inconvenience to the hostess as she hurried us through the gate and lectured us about the rules & regulations about staying there. The "breakfast" and snack offerings were terrible and worse than airplane food. If it wasn't for the location and cozy bed, I would rate MM with a one star.

    The Magnolia Mansion is quite fabulous. I did some research about b&b's before my then fiancee (same guy as The Plaza hotel in NYC review) and I embarked on a short trip to New Orleans from Oxford. Oops, he was my then-boyfriend. Whatever, he's not now. :) Initially, I chose another b&b in the Garden District, but the reviews were shoddy and this place looked, well, much better, so I canceled my reservation at the first place and booked the Magnolia. The other place ended up charging my credit card twice and a late fee, but I disputed all charges, including the cancellation fee. Another story. Anyway, we also stayed in the Moulin Rouge room and needless to say, it was so cool. The room was completely red, including the ceiling, and part of the bed was painted on the wall (so that it looked grander). I would post pictures, but I went there in 2004 and didn't have a digital camera then. I will have have to scan those pictures at some point. Also, the bathroom was quite spacious and two paintings were on the wall and the door in the style of Henri Toulouse-Latrec. The rest of the mansion was beautiful and I got to peek in a few other rooms, like the Napoleon room and the Vampire room, which I think is the most popular room in the building. There is also a Cinderella room, a Mardi Gras room and a Gone With the Wind video, among others. This would be a beautiful place to be married in. The staff were friendly, from what I can remember. I only give this four stars because the breakfast kind of sucked. When going to New Orleans, this is the kind of place you should stay in because it captures the true essence of the Crescent City. Forget about Days Inn, the Marriott, etc. This is the real New Orleans.

    My fiance booked this hotel as a surprise for me on my 25th birthday. I was a little surprised by the negative reviews but I guess each person has different taste. I must say we absolutely LOVED the Magnolia Mansion! It was one of the most romantic and beautiful places I had ever been. We stayed in the Moulin Rouge room which was beautiful. Everything about the mansion was beautiful. I found myself not wanting to leave. The hostess was very accommodating and friendly. The breakfast was very basic which is why I only gave it four stars. The neighborhood is beautiful and definitely bouncing back from the wrath of the hurricane. This will definitely be a place that we come back to again and again.

    What a lovely place to visit and not right it the crowds. We came for the Essence Festival. There are only a few rooms, and it was so peaceful we weren't even sure if anyone was staying there. Pro: Very convenient to walk to the French Quarter. Hollie and Tim were very personable and helpful. The rooms were clean, and Hollie showed us all the rooms which were differently decorated in each one. We booked through Travelocity, but she said book directly through them and you can get a better upgrade. I would do that next time to have a fancy suite decorated like Gone with the Wind, or Anne Rice style. I do like that they have shelves of movies to borrow and watch. Con: The toiletries were terrible and weren't consistent. The first day we had watery lotion and random shampoo; the next day we had a shower cap and no lotion. This place really needs to upscale the toiletries to Aveda or something much better. The breakfast wasn't great and the coffee watery, however snacks were available all day. Definitely only use United Cab as they recommend.

    I'm sad to report that this amazingly beautiful home does not live up to its exterior. Don't get me wrong, the building itself is gorgeous inside and out. It is a majestic antebellum mansion with all the charm and glory you would expect. That's about where it stops. Although our room was beautiful, it was crammed with a lot of furniture. The fireplace was completely hidden by giant chairs. The armoire was partially broken. In the bathroom, there was no shampoo. I must say, when I walked downstairs to ask for shampoo (I had to walk because there are no phones) the girl gave me plenty for our entire stay. But, that's where the service stopped. We stayed two nights and our room was never refreshed. No made bed. No fresh towels. The hairdryer was broken and only blew room temperature air. About the temperature. There was only one temperature control for the second floor and the unit is not up to par. It was warm in our room the entire time. When we complained, we were told we could move to another room. On the second floor. They are all the SAME temperature. We would like to have moved downstairs, where they keep all the nice cool rooms, but those cost more. Our stay was overshadowed by these irritating issues and made the stay absolutely not worth the expense. We could have stayed somewhere much less expensive and been better taken care of.

    Horrible Experience! Do not stay here. I was given a room with no working air conditioner and windows wouldn't open (mind you it is summer in New Orleans). It was like sleeping in a sauna. When I complained, I was given an option of another room without a bathroom. I prepaid for two nights and left after the first night. The owner would not provide a refund. After complaining further, I was offered a discount of 20%, which I've not received. Making guests comfortable or happy is not a concern for this owner. I have never given a hotel a bad review but this place was the worst.

    The website is VERY deceiving with their pictures. It's not in a very good part of town, they don't have secure parking and you might have to park down the street in a shady area. The inn keeper is rude and doesn't really care if you are comfortable or not. I kept complaining to her because their "high speed" internet was either not working or was as slow as dial up service, and she really didn't care if I was getting it or not. The room was nice though, its just the outside of the place that is shady. When I got up for breakfast I couldn't believe that my choices was a couple of choices of fruit, stale bread, and muffins that looked like they bought them at the gas station. I took a picture for you to see. I of course didn't eat that garbage! I guess these people don't know the definition of Bed and Breakfast.......every B&B that I have EVER been to actually cooks you breakfast, thats one pf the points of even going to one. They say that they are close to the French Quarter and the ARE NOT! I was going to cancel my reservation, but they wouldn't give me my money back. The second night that I was there, I guess these people were doing a "ghost" investigation, but they were acting more like loud mouth juvenile delinquents being noisy at 11pm. I was out in one of the front living rooms writing witnessing their childish behavior. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS GARBAGE BOX!!!

    Want all that a B&B is NOT? Stay here! This is the worst B&B we have ever stayed at! Courtney D had noted the same type of experience last week, unfortunately we booked in August. This is not the welcoming southern charm you would like it to be. It is beautiful but it stops there. The breakfast is as bad as 7-11. The price here would make you expect far better. We stay at B&B often and know what to expect. We did not feel welcome from the moment they thought they lost our reservation...the room was freezing cold--had to borrow a space heater and asked to be moved. We knew we would be held to the 3 days we advanced paid, so we feel like hostages. This is not the place you want to stay. I wish I could use no stars--stay at a Motel 6, they are friendly and more customer focused. Housekeeping staff were very nice though, still had to ask for soap and Kleenex...why? Management should try to spend a night to get the experience in the servants' quarters in the lower level....unbelievable! Will not return.

    Let me start by saying that I never write reviews, but my stay at the Magnolia Mansion inspired--no--demanded that I write one. The main house IS beautiful, but if you are unfortunate enough to stay in one of the courtyard rooms, forget ever seeing it. You, instead, will be lead around to the "peasants quarters" that could better serve the owner as storage facilities. But I didn't mind the shabbiness of our room with its exposed air ducts, poorly hidden conduits and a television that was older than myself. I didn't even mind the lack of a blow dryer or thermostat. The absence of hot water was a little disconcerting, but after 30 minutes of running it, I finally was able to get the temperature above "freezing your ass off." The real fun at the Magnolia Mansion, though, began once it was time for bed. Around 2 am, a hoard of bandits burst into our room and began banging furiously on metal pots and pans---no wait--that's just what it sounded like. For an entire hour, someone or SOMETHING ran up and down the stairs and played tag in the room above Courtyard 2. When at last I found a moment of silence, I thought the worst was behind us. That is until bright at early at 7 am, the Mexican Mofia stood outside our room and with what sounded like electronically amplified voices began to tell their "bros" all the sordid things they liked to do to their lady friends. I really appreciated the excessive use of the f-word as they began HAMMERING on the wall that joined my own. I attempted to call management, but I suspect they were somewhere enjoying the pleasure of uninterrupted sleep. Now, I know the Magnolia Mansion boasts of "hauntings," but what they really mean is that you will not receive a moments rest if you are unfortunate enough to stay at their sorry excuse for a "bed and breakfast." Tsk tsk for blaming that on a poor ghost. Needless to say, I will never be back--Motel 6 looks pretty inviting right about now.

    I went to view the property as a potential site for my wedding. The building itself is very grand and has probably hosted some lovely weddings in the past. However, current management is awful. There is an attached parking lot, but it isn't for guests, so I had to park blocks away. I rang the bell at the gate at my appointment time, but no one answered. I eventually had to yell across to someone on the grounds to let me into the grounds. Meeting the property manager, I expected a discussion about what we wanted. He didn't ask a single thing. Not even the date. He did show me a room though...an occupied room. The gentleman in the room was getting ready for his own wedding that afternoon. Seriously. As the groom and I made awkward conversation, the property manager answered his phone and signaled that he would be a minute then walked off. More than 25 minutes later, I was still waiting. He had gone to the bank. Really.I couldn't make this up. So, in the end, I think we dodged a bullet. I wouldn't have trusted them to even show up on our wedding day, much less have anything organized if they got there.

    What a disappointment. First the pros: the setting is wonderful, right in the heart of the Garden District. The communal spaces of the hotel, inner rooms and patio, are quite beautiful, I can see why it is a popular place to have weddings. Just don't plan to spend your honeymoon here. The cons: I came hoping to experience some southern hospitality. Instead, our very first interaction involved being required to pay $50, in cash, because the late arrival of our plane brought us in later than the proprietors' bedtime. Sorry to interrupt your beauty sleep, but aren't you running a hotel? Nothing like a little graft to get my 2nd anniversary vacation off on to a good start. Upon leaving, a friend was taking over our room and she was treated very rudely and wasn't allowed into the hotel, and I have yet to receive an explanation for her poor treatment. That this place bills itself a bed and breakfast is an insult to the word breakfast. Your stay includes the same "breakfast" supplied at your typical Super 8: toast with little plastic packets of jelly, bagels with foil packets of cream cheese, unpeeled fruit. I can understand that not every bed and breakfast can make homemade pastries, but if you must buy them from the corner 7-11, at least take them out of the plastic wrapper and put them on a serving tray and pretend that you care. The low quality food and complete lack of class is quite a contrast to the surroundings of the hotel. At least while you're staying there you can borrow from and enjoy their fine selection of VHS tapes to watch in your dimly lit room. I'll be returning to New Orleans for a week in November, but I will never return to the Magnolia Mansion.

    We came to New Orleans to celebrate my husband's 40th birthday. Both Hollie & Tim were wonderful hosts! The property is absolutely beautiful and conveniently located in the Garden District, a short ride on the trolley to all the action on Bourbon Street. We loved this place so much, we stayed here twice during our adventures through Louisiana. The rooms are beautiful, the beds are comfortable and the house is impeccably clean. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who's looking for somewhere unique to stay in N.O.
